Back at it after a week hiatus

After a bye week, players gathered back at the table for a rotating round of Mahj!

Unclear if it was the spooky decor or if we were all under the spell of the moon, but the tiles spoke in interesting ways to our players. With a variety of trinkets on the line, games were competitive and Rose came home with 2 wins (is it home-court advantage?), Casey D with one and Mel with one.

Despite some shiny trinket options, each player decided to take home a creepy bug in honor of their win and the Halloween season. Looking forward to seeing what is in the stars and in our hands this week!

October Kickoff: Double Gold Birds & Future Champions!

We had another fantastic Thursday Tile Society gathering over at Rose's place! Energy was high across the tables, with two players running away with the night: Rose took home the coveted Gold Bird as our host and "Grand Champion" with 5 big wins, and Casey B was right on her heels, collecting 4 wins of her own to add to her pouch!

But the highlight of the evening came from our junior player, Maeve. Staying up past bedtime in pursuit of her first Mahj, she pulled off a huge victory right before call time. Even sweeter? When her opponents offered to let her take back a misplayed tile, she refused, declaring she wanted to win fair and square—pure champion mindset!

First Gathering in the Books!

We officially kicked off the Thursday Tile Society this past Thursday at Mel's! Casey B kept us fueled with delicious homemade chocolate chip cookies, while Mel kept the snacks flowing all night. We ran two full tables—both featuring a designated 'Bob'—and Rose dominated the evening with an impressive 3 Mahjs! We even had a surprise guest drop by (and her little dog, too!). Next week, we’re heading to Bryan + Addam's place. Check the schedule, sign up, and come call Mahj with us!

You're Invited to the Thursday Tile Society!

It's almost fall (eeek!) and it's time to start the Thursday Tile Society that I've been blabbing about for months!
For those that were saved from my obsession, this is a neighborhood group where we can informally get together weekly to play some American Mahjong!

TTS Guidelines

Game Play

Games kickoff at 7pm and we will play at least 4 rounds per evening.
We will play NMJL rules for American Mahjong.
We will play tables of 3 or 4, allowing Bob to play where needed; if we don't have enough players, we will rotate.
If we don't have more than two players, we will cancel the week; we will only play with a minimum of three.
This is a friendly league and we encourage new players; we will not be keeping score..... yet 😝

Host Responsibilities

Provide the space, tables, and chairs for a set number of tables (please note your capacity on the signup sheet).
Let us know on the signup sheet if you need other players to bring extra Mahjong sets.
Add your address to the address tab here with any notes on how to find your place or get in.
Add any notes on the schedule that players should be aware of (playing outside, pets, etc).
Review members per week and will inform the group if week is cancelled or moved based on number of players.

Guest Responsibilities

Sign up no later than Tuesday for games that week.
Bring your own 2026 NMJL Card or reach out to the host to secure one.
Eat dinner before or after, hosts may have some snacks, but do not assume.
BYOB if you want.
Notify host of your level of play (league is beginner friendly).
